Introduction
The Master of Science (M.Sc.) Degree by Research is a unique
course launched with a view to enabling all those interested
in research activities and contemplating to complete their
Master's Degrees based on the unique researches being
conducted by them on relevant and chosen topics under the
expert supervision of the guides and supervisors appointed
by the University.
The M.Sc. by Research develops the ability of the research
students to pursue original research in a critical as well
as scholarly way.
The programme with a minimum duration of two years is
designed to train the Post Graduate Researchers in line with
the research training guidelines developed by the
university.
Programme Overview
* 24-month Master's Degree Programme with January / July
start date.
* In-depth Research Training.
* Quarterly Dissertation on the selected topics.
* Final Master's Thesis to be submitted at the end of the
completion of the programme.

At the end of the programme, the students should have :
* An in-depth critical understanding of the research
techniques in a broad range of the subject area selected by
the researcher.
* Practical competence in a range of quantitative and
qualitative research methods and tools.
* A critical understanding of the philosophical and
epistemological bases of a range of subject areas within the
framework of the topic of research selected by the
researcher.
* An in-depth understanding of the advanced concept in the
area of research and current research trends and issues
related to the topic of research.
1. The selected students will be admitted as Probationary
Research Scholars and will be joining a research group
supervised by one or more members of the supervising team.
2. During the first year, in addition to the starting work
on the research topic, the scholars will be encouraged to
follow training courses chosen from the existing list of
courses on research methodology besides the relevant subject
areas.
3. A quarterly report on the progress the research conducted
by the scholars is submitted by the concerned guide /
supervisor throughout the course.
4. At the end of the first year, after the successful
completion of first year, the researcher will undergo a
Transfer of Status Assessment which will ensure that they
have the potential to gain the M.Sc. Degree. This Assessment
will be made on the basis of a Report and an oral
examinations.
5. Based on this Assessment, the students will be promoted
to second year where they will be working towards preparing
the final thesis.
6. Research proceeds with quarterly reporting until the
project is complete. The Degree is examined by the Master's
Thesis and an oral examination by two external examiners.
Most of the M.Sc. by Research students will be able to
submit their Thesis within two years.

Salient Features of the M.Sc. Degree by Research :
Students having Bachelor's Degree in the relevant and allied
subjects are eligible to get admitted in this M.Sc. Degree
based on the topic selected in consultation with the
supervisor and guide allotted by the University to the
admitted students.
The admitted students will be working on this research topic
by collecting information from primary and secondary
resources besides conducting applied researches in different
laboratories and work places.
The progress of the scholars will be monitored periodically
every four months and based on their successful progress,
the final Master's Thesis will be accepted by the university
to be evaluated by the external examiners before the final
viva-voce with a view to declaring the final results.
